Congratulation!!! On April 20,2011, Hubby is officially Vietnamese born Canadian. He was so lazy to apply for a citizenship. As his wife, I had to PUSH him working on that almost every day since August 2009 (and now he complains that I am talking too much, I am talkative ........Hum~)
He faced with many difficulties during the process of becoming Canadian. First of all, he was so lazy to work on the application. He wasted his time a lot before actually filling the form and paying for the fee in August 2009. Then, he got a letter from Citizenship and Immigration of Canada to take his finger prints (as his name is same as someone's else name). Alright, he had to wait for another couple months to wait for the clearance.
After that, he was called for the test. As he didn't have one of his old Vietnamese passport which is on the list of required documents on the day of the test, he had to ask Dad to send an email to his cousin living in Vietnam to fax that old passport to him. Ms. Thao, his cousin, did a very good job. As soon as she got an email from Dad, she faxed them to Dad and hubby right away (although she had to do it twice as the first one wasn't in good quality printing at all).
Then, I had to blame on hubby again. He was lazy again again.............2 months later, he faxed that passport to Immigration Canada. Unfortunately, they asked him to re-fax all the pages, including the plain pages of the old passport. Ok........Sigh ~. This time, I had to mail them to Immigration Canada to make sure the passport copy go to the right place and reach the right person and in the fastest period of time.
Almost another 2 months later, Hubby called to check with Immigration Canada, he was told that his application was in process. BUT he forgot to confirm with them that they already receive his old passport. Then he had to call them in the 3 weeks after to confirm.
And now, FINALLY he got a letter to attend to the Oath ceremony on 20.04.2011.
The time written on the letter was 8:30AM. But we waited more than an hour for the actual ceremony to take place (due to the paper works, not only for us, but also for all the people who attend the ceremony on that day). And the ceremony only took a hour. :(
I decided to take more pictures for Hubby to compensate for the time and the energy we spent.
Once again, congratulation !!! And Hubby is officially able to vote for the election coming in May.
